Gender Identity

For some children, their gender identity may differ from their gender at birth. Gender identity is one's psychological sense of gender. It is not learned, not chosen, not due to an emotional or mental disorder, and not determined by parenting. COPEDS offers compassionate evaluation and treatment for transgender youth when appropriate as follows:

  • Puberty blockers
  • Gender-affirming hormones
  • Menstrual suppression
  • Referrals for therapy, psychiatry, psychology, pediatric gynecology, pediatric urology and other services as needed
