Laboratory

Within the COPEDS clinic laboratory, we can perform the following blood or urine tests:

  • HGBA1C
  • Glucose
  • Blood Ketones
  • Urine Ketone
  • Complete Urine Analysis
  • Urine Microalbumin

For other blood or urine tests, we refer patients to locations recommended by their insurance plan. However, we highly recommend pediatric-qualified phlebotomists.

All lab tests are reviewed by the physicians as they come into our office. However, some tests will take up to 2 weeks to receive completed results. If there are any urgent concerns, we will contact you immediately upon our receipt of the lab results of concern. Otherwise all test results need to be reviewed in the context of your child's physical findings and medical history:

  • For initial visit lab reports: If we have not already scheduled a return visit for lab review, we will need to do so with the COPEDS doctor so that the doctor can go over the results with you in detail. The doctors do usually require that the patient be present at this visit. Our doctors will also send your primary care doctor a letter explaining the results and their implications.

  • For established patients lab reports: We will send you a post card of the lab results with their implications. On some occasions, if the results are complex, or we need to make a treatment decision, a return visit will be arranged.

You also have the option to review your child's lab results online. In order to access the results, you will need to create an individual account for your child through the following portals depending upon the location upon where your labs were completed.

  • LabCorp Portal: click here.
  • ChildLab Portal: click here.
  • Quest Labs Portal: click here.
